Installing Data Terminals

It is very easy to install the Data Terminals. Just hook up the parts to your computer as shown in this section. No extra computer or networking is required. Still in the interest of safety, we recommend that you consult an electrician or qualified person before installing the data terminals.

Make sure all parts are present.

Attaching the adapter to the serial port of the computer

1.       Screw the adapter, HW-Adapter-PCAT, to the serial port on the back of your computer.

2.       Plug the AC/DC adapter, HW-PowerSupply1226-1, into a wall outlet and plug its Banana Jack into the round socket on HW-Adapter-PCAT.

Mounting the Data Terminal on the wall

By now you should have determined the location of the Data Terminal and how the wiring will run. If not, contact us for recommendations.

1.       Mount the bracket, HW-Bracket-DT4x20, at eye level with the screws provided.

We recommend finding a stud in the wall to ensure a secure attachment.

2.       Guide the Data Terminal facing outward into the bracket ensuring the socket at the bottom of the Data Terminal is visible on the bottom edge.

Running the cable from the computer to the terminal

1.       Insert one end of the cable, HW-Cable6C-xxx, into HW-Adapter-PCAT, which is attached to the computer.

2.       Run the cable to the Data Terminal as you had decided.

3.       Plug the other end of the cable into the data terminal.

If the connections are done correctly the data terminal will go through a quick self-test making short beeping sounds.

Setting up iCare for Operating the Data Terminals

1.       In iCare go to the System Configuration menu.

2.       Select System HW Setup.

3.       Go to the Data Terminals tab.

4.       Click on Set Number of Terminals Installed.

5.       Enter the correct number.

6.       Click OK.

The Data Terminal iCare Test

You must restart iCare to use the data terminal. Double-click the iCare desktop icon to start iCare. If you now see “CODE:” displayed on the Data Terminal, the installation is complete. If not, one of the following could be the problem:

§         iCare is not set up for operating the Data Terminal. See instructions above.

§         The Windows setting for your serial port is not right or the serial port is not functional – contact your PC supplier.
